Sustainability Starts With Measurement
Water and electricity are precious. To reduce usage and achieve sustainability, you first have to be able to track it. What that looks like for a water park.
Every facility manager has a utility bill. Very few have a utility picture. The bill tells you what the whole operation used last month. It does not tell you which ride, on which day, at which hour, drove the number, and it certainly does not tell you in time to do anything about it.
Water parks make this especially vivid. They are, by design, enormous users of water and power. They also operate under municipal water restrictions that tighten in exactly the seasons when demand is highest. Managing that with a monthly bill is like driving with the windshield painted over and a rear view mirror that updates every thirty days.
The Principle

Measurement is not the goal. It is the precondition. You cannot set a target for a number you cannot see, and you cannot tell whether a change worked without a baseline to compare against.
What Good Tracking Looks Like
Continuous, not monthly. Usage should be visible as it happens. A leak that starts on a Tuesday should be noticed on Tuesday.
Per ride, not just park wide. The total hides everything useful. Break usage down by attraction and zone, and the outliers appear immediately.
In context. Usage means little without attendance, weather, and operating hours next to it. A high water day during a heat wave with record attendance is normal. The same number on a quiet cool day is a problem.
Against the rules. Municipal restrictions should be entered once and checked automatically, so compliance is something you can prove rather than something you hope.
Looking Ahead, Not Back
The step beyond tracking is prediction. Once a system has seen a season of data, it knows what normal looks like for each ride under each set of conditions. That is when anomaly detection earns its place. The ride that is drifting a few percent above its expected use, day after day, gets flagged while it is still a maintenance ticket instead of a flood or a spike on the bill.
We call that module Looking Ahead, because that is the whole point. Reports explain the past. Prediction changes the future.
The Order Matters
We deliberately lead with compliance, efficiency, and anomalies rather than with cost. Cost savings follow naturally from all three, but a facility that chases cost alone tends to cut in the wrong places. A facility that can see its usage clearly makes better decisions across the board, and the savings arrive as a result rather than a target.
Beyond Water Parks
Nothing here is unique to water parks. Arenas, aquatic centres, campuses, hotels, and industrial sites all have the same structure: meters that measure, bills that arrive late, and operations that would run better if someone could see them.
